About Us: Parker Harris & The Art Ladder

Parker Harris is an arts consultancy with over 35 years’ experience running some of the UK’s leading art prizes and open exhibitions.

The Art Ladder is our online mentoring programme for artists. Launched in January 2024, the programme has helped over 1,000 artists to date.

We are hiring a Social Media Manager to take ownership of social media across both Parker Harris and The Art Ladder, working closely with Rupert McMinn (who leads on the Parker Harris side) and Marine Costello (who leads on The Art Ladder side).

Your Role

Social media across both Parker Harris and The Art Ladder

  • Help us run Parker Harris channels (Instagram, Facebook: @parkerharrisco): writing, creating, and scheduling posts in line with our content strategy. Responding to comments and DMs. Monitoring performance.

  • Help us run The Art Ladder channels (Instagram: @artistmentoring, and YouTube: The Art Ladder): same as above, plus producing short-form content (Reels, carousels, static posts) tailored to The Art Ladder’s audience and purpose.

  • Build cross-platform collaboration. Parker Harris and The Art Ladder are intrinsically linked but distinct. You’ll keep each channel’s voice and focus clear while finding cross-promotion opportunities, so that Parker Harris channels regularly feature The Art Ladder programme, freebies, courses, upcoming sessions, deadlines, and the rest.

  • Convert clips from The Art Ladder sessions and interviews into social posts (captions, hooks, calls to action, format adjustments per platform), and post them to @artistmentoring and/or @parkerharrisco where relevant for cross-promotion.

Other marketing tasks

  • Email scheduling in our bespoke mailing system

  • Uploading and sending press releases to our arts media database.

  • Contacting universities and partner organisations to share our calls for entries and exhibitions.

  • Tracking analytics and cross-promotion reporting, so we know what’s working and what to include in our client reports.

  • Weekly meetings with the Parker Harris team to discuss projects: with Marine, Rupert, Penny, Imogen and Hollie.
  • Monthly four-person team meetings to discuss The Art Ladder comms: with Marine, Rupert, and The Art Ladder operational assistant, to align messaging and agree the social media schedule and content.

  • Cross-platform planning between Parker Harris and The Art Ladder accounts, with Rupert and Marine.

Our Team

You’ll be working with:

  • Emma Parker and Penny Harris (Co-founders). Emma and Penny co-founded Parker Harris and run our projects, including organising exhibitions and art prizes. They also appear in much of the content (in-depth mentoring sessions on The Art Ladder). You’ll get to know their voice through the recordings you work with.
  • Marine Costello (Partner). Marine leads on The Art Ladder side, sets the overall direction for our mentoring content, and gives final approval on The Art Ladder + PH press releases and communications strategies.
  • Rupert McMinn (Communications Manager). Rupert leads on the Parker Harris side, writes our press releases and newsletter, sets the overall direction for PH content, and gives approval on PH posts.
  • The Art Ladder operational assistant. Your main collaborator on TAL content pipeline. They edit raw session recordings in Descript, send clips to you, and rely on you to turn those clips into ship-ready social posts.

What we’re looking for

  1. Minimum 2 years of social media management experience. Posts, Reels, carousels, scheduling, analytics, community management.
  2. Experience or background in contemporary art. It’s essential to understand the world of art and artists in order to communicate about our projects.
  3. Attention to detail. You’re the kind of person who catches your own typos before submitting, takes feedback and applies it across your work, and notices when an asset feels off-brand before it goes live.
  4. Platform expertise. You understand what performs well on each platform. You know that an Instagram Reel needs a hook in the first 1 to 3 seconds. You know what works on Facebook versus Instagram, etc.
  5. A balance of visual and engagement. We work in contemporary visual art, so the way our content looks matters a lot to us. At the same time, posts need to perform. While we don’t want to post something beautiful that gets no engagement… We also don’t want to post something that attracts lots of views, likes and comments, but doesn’t feel like “us”.
  6. Tool proficiency. You’re comfortable with using: Canva, Descript, CapCut, Later, Hootsuite, or equivalent tools.
  7. Right to work in the UK.
  8. London-based, able to attend events. You’ll be at exhibition private views, filmings, and team meetings, mainly in London with some travel around the UK. You can work from home most of the time, but you’re not 100% remote.

Nice to have:

  • Experience with email marketing platforms (we’ll teach you our system, but if you’ve used Mailchimp, Klaviyo, Kit, or similar, that helps).

  • Experience creating clips from longer-form video content and scheduling them on social media.

Why This Role Is Exciting

  • A mix of remote work and in-person events. Most weeks you’ll work from home; some weeks you’ll be at exhibitions, private views, or team meetings.
  • A close-knit team. You’ll work directly with Rupert and Marine, plus the rest of our team (Penny, Emma, Ciara, Imogen, and Hollie), and attend regular online and offline team meetings.
  • A wide range of projects and exhibitions. At any given time, we’re working on 10 to 20 different projects – from small-scale paintings in a London gallery to large installations in a gothic cathedral – so you’ll never get bored!
  • A role in creating opportunities for artists. Both Parker Harris and The Art Ladder are all about helping artists grow their careers, get their work seen, and connecting with wider audiences of art lovers, curators and collectors. Through our social media, you'll have a real impact on spreading the word about our open calls, exhibitions, and mentoring programmes for artists.
